Biography
Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, Ken Moran grew up in a very musical environment and studied with many renown saxophonists in the area. Ken began playing saxophone in elementary school and soon discovered his love for Jazz around age 12. Ken was recognized for his musical talent at a young age, winning numerous awards in high school like the Woody Herman Jazz Award and Outstanding Musicianship at the Reno Jazz Festival every year from 1998-2002.
After studying for 3 years at California State University, Hayward and two European tours, Ken moved to Los Angeles to complete his B.M. in Jazz Studies at California State University, Northridge and once again traveled to Europe with the acclaimed CSUN Jazz ・スgA・スh Big Band. The band went on to win First Place at the Reno Jazz Festival Competition for two consecutive years while Ken was lead tenor saxophone in the big band. Ken has performed at such festivals as the Reno Jazz Festival, the Umbria Jazz Festival, the Montreux Jazz Festival, Jazz a Vienne, and venues like Jazz at Lincoln Center, Catalina・スfs Jazz Club, Yoshi・スfs Jazz Club, and the Jazz Bakery. His saxophone teachers have included Dann Zinn, Dave Ellis, Rob Lockhart, Bob Sheppard, and Walter Smith III. Currently, Ken is heavily involved with the diverse music scene in Los Angeles, playing saxophone in all genres of music. He can be seen performing with his own trio every Saturday at the Beverly Hilton, a contemporary rock/soul group River of Suns, and with many other groups throughout the area.
